About Me 🚀
My name is Maham and I am currently a 5th Year Medical Student at the University of Manchester. Outside of medicine, I am interested in advocacy for quality global healthcare for all and do a lot of work in Widening Participation programmes to help disadvantaged students get into courses such as medicine/dentistry to make these professions more representative of our society and allow everyone, regardless of their background or societal circumstances, a chance to follow the career of their choosing. Even further outside of medicine, I enjoy reading, cross country, and glass painting in my free time (whenever I get any).
Teaching Experience 📝
I have been a tutor for 4 years and have taught students from Year 7 - Year 13 in the sciences and maths. I have taught both as a private tutor and as part of a company who, and was part of the National Tutoring Programme during the COVID-19 pandemic to help children catch up on work and minimise the disruption to their education at such a difficult time.
As a tutor, I have taught lessons through a variety of mediums and in a wide range of class sizes from 1-to-1 tuition to 8 students per class, and prioritise engagement and understanding, allowing each student to set the pace that they are most benefitting from and comfortable with.
My teaching style is generally based on initial simplification of the problem, commonly by drawing diagrams or making simple analogies, and building on the concept from there as understanding grows. After this initial understanding is solidifies, the approach becomes exam-board focussed to ensure that along with knowledge of the topic, the student is able to answer questions under exam conditions in a way that is reflective of the mark scheme.I'm well aware that medicine, dentistry, and similar courses are competitive and there is no shortage of stressors outside of exams, so I am a big advocate for effective time management and ensuring that all other prerequisites are also given the time and care required. This is not only make a strong application, but to allow the student to become a well-rounded individual capable of supporting themselves with guidance and gain invaluable skills to help them not only gain entry to the course of their choosing, but also lifelong skills to guide them through that course and beyond.
